UAE and Saudi Arabia Renew Military Support for Yemen Against Houthi Advances

by admin477351

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia are intensifying their efforts to counter the Houthi forces in Yemen amid escalating security concerns in the region. Reports indicate that the UAE has agreed to reinstate financial backing for Yemeni government forces, while Saudi Arabia has committed to providing air support for the coalition. This collaborative move is seen as a response to the growing threat posed by Houthi advances and attacks.

This renewed cooperation may help improve ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which have previously found themselves at odds over Yemen’s political landscape, particularly regarding the influence of southern separatist groups. The UAE, which had supported and trained various southern military units, had previously pulled back its involvement in Yemen earlier this year.

As the conflict continues, Yemen’s internationally recognized government has initiated a counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming key territories near Marib and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Despite these efforts, progress has been limited due to ongoing fighting and persistent security threats.

The regional tensions have also escalated, with Saudi Arabia facing drone and missile assaults attributed to the Houthis. In response, Egypt has expressed its willingness to consider defensive measures to help safeguard Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom is evaluating requests for additional military support.

The prolonged conflict in Yemen has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, displacing over 200,000 people since August and placing immense pressure on humanitarian organizations tasked with providing emergency assistance to those in need.
