Lotus Confirms UK Base: Hethel Factory Secure

by admin477351

Lotus has confirmed its UK base, reassuring the government that its Hethel factory in Norfolk is secure. The sports car maker, owned by Geely, dispelled rumors of a move to US production during an urgent meeting with Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, thereby safeguarding 1,300 jobs.
The clarification comes after Lotus temporarily halted production in mid-May, citing inventory and supply chain issues linked to US tariffs. With these tariffs now set to significantly decrease, Lotus is preparing to resume full operations at its only UK manufacturing site.
A Department for Business and Trade spokesperson stated that Reynolds “was reassured by management that they are committed to their UK operations and have no plans to close their Hethel plant.” This strong affirmation provides much-needed stability for the local workforce and the broader automotive supply chain.
Despite earlier discussions by Lotus Technology’s CEO about exploring US “localisation plans,” the immediate outcome is a clear dedication to the Hethel facility. The government’s commitment to supporting the car sector through financial incentives and strategic partnerships further enhances the positive outlook for Lotus’s continued presence in the UK.
