During the 168th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council meeting held in Bahrain, GCC foreign ministers collectively condemned the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and affirmed the Kingdom’s right to defend itself. The meeting underscored the perceived threat to regional security posed by these assaults, targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, which were described as violations of international law.
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani emphasized solidarity with Saudi Arabia, stating that the Kingdom’s security is integral to the security of all GCC member states. He further condemned the attacks on airports and civilian infrastructure, highlighting their detrimental impact on both regional safety and stability.
Echoing these sentiments, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi denounced the continued attacks, stressing the threat they pose to regional security. He urged for international intervention to halt the assaults and ensure accountability for those responsible. Albudaiwi also addressed concerns over regional tensions, developments in Yemen, and challenges to freedom of navigation in key maritime corridors like the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, and Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting also included discussions on Iranian activities perceived as threats against GCC countries. Albudaiwi called for respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Following the ministerial council meeting, the ninth joint ministerial meeting of the Gulf-Russia Strategic Dialogue took place. This session aimed at strengthening cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international issues, further reflecting the collective effort to address ongoing challenges and enhance strategic partnerships.
