Türkiye and Pakistan to Deploy Forces in Saudi Arabia Under Mecca Defense Pact

by admin477351

In response to escalating tensions in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye have agreed to deploy military forces to Saudi Arabia as part of a collective defense strategy. This decision emerged from an emergency session of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee of the Mecca Alliance, held in Riyadh. Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman confirmed that the member states would activate military deployment following recent attacks on Saudi soil by Yemen’s Houthi group.

The Mecca Alliance, established by the three countries on August 7, functions on the principle that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all, thereby endorsing a framework for a collective defense mechanism. The recent agreement signifies the first significant step toward operationalizing the alliance’s commitments in light of the current regional conflict.

These developments occur amidst a backdrop of heightened conflict in Yemen, where Saudi-backed forces are engaged in a counteroffensive against Houthi fighters. The Houthis recently seized control of several territories, intensifying the ongoing conflict and prompting the alliance to activate its defense measures.

The agreement outlines the deployment of military forces under existing arrangements, in line with the laws of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye. This deployment aims to bolster Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities in the face of the ongoing threats posed by Houthi attacks.

The Mecca Defense Alliance’s activation reflects a strategic alignment among the member states to address security challenges in the region collectively. As the situation in Yemen continues to evolve, the alliance’s actions could play a critical role in shaping the regional security landscape.
