The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s aid organization, KSrelief, has joined forces with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to launch a substantial food security initiative in Yemen. With a financial commitment totaling $10 million, the project aims to aid vulnerable populations and bolster long-term resilience in the region.
This collaborative effort sees both KSrelief and the UK contributing $5 million each. The funds are earmarked for a project that will be executed by the United Nations World Food Programme. The targeted areas for this initiative include the governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij, where the need for support is particularly acute.
The program is designed to provide conditional cash transfers, which will enhance access to food and facilitate the restoration of productive infrastructure. A key component of the initiative is to help families move from emergency food assistance towards greater self-sufficiency. In addition to these efforts, the project will offer vocational training and extend support to local authorities, while also focusing on improving governance and ensuring the sustainable management of community resources.
This agreement is part of a larger humanitarian strategy by Saudi Arabia, conducted through KSrelief. Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has been instrumental in executing more than 4,400 aid projects across 113 countries, with a total expenditure exceeding $8.5 billion. Such efforts underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing global humanitarian assistance.
