by admin477351

Saudi Arabia and Greece are enhancing their strategic partnership, focusing on energy cooperation and securing international shipping routes. During talks in Riyadh, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis marked a century of diplomatic relations by pledging to deepen collaboration across various sectors, including energy, investment, digital connectivity, and security.

A joint statement highlighted the leaders’ commitment to safeguarding international shipping lanes and ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies, amid concerns about potential attacks on energy infrastructure and their impact on global markets. Greece acknowledged Saudi efforts to stabilize oil markets and maintain reliable supply through alternative routes such as the East-West Pipeline.

Central to the discussions was the acceleration of a planned electricity interconnection project, facilitating power exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Europe via Greece. Additionally, both nations are exploring avenues to export clean hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Greece and other European Union markets. Investment opportunities across renewable energy, conventional energy, and petrochemicals were also on the agenda.

The two countries expressed a shared interest in expanding economic ties in infrastructure, construction, logistics, and technology, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $1.7 billion in 2025. Digital connectivity was another focal point, with progress on the EMC submarine cable project, aimed at enhancing communications infrastructure between East and West, being welcomed by both sides.

Saudi Arabia invited Greek companies to invest in the Kingdom and partake in development initiatives such as Riyadh Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Conversely, Greece encouraged Saudi investors to explore opportunities in transport, energy, logistics, digital infrastructure, and advanced technologies.

Further strengthening of defense and security cooperation was agreed upon, focusing on counterterrorism, combating terrorist financing, cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and professional training. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to international climate agreements, supporting collaboration in carbon management, artificial intelligence, space technology, healthcare, education, tourism, and culture.

The discussions underscore the growing significance of Saudi-Greek relations, building on the strategic partnership council established in 2022, as both countries seek to enhance energy security, international trade, and regional connectivity.
