The United Arab Emirates has issued a stern denunciation of the latest remarks by the Houthi group directed at Saudi Arabia, which include threats to enforce a maritime blockade on the kingdom. In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to the global community to ensure adherence to pertinent United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and the safeguarding of maritime security in the Red Sea.

The ministry placed particular emphasis on Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen, along with Resolution 2722 that focuses on the protection of navigation rights and the freedom of movement within the Red Sea. The call for action underscores the UAE’s commitment to international agreements designed to maintain order and secure passage in these critical waters.

Highlighting the importance of maritime law, the UAE reiterated that freedom of navigation in international waters is a right enshrined in international law, specifically referencing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This convention is a cornerstone of maritime law, ensuring the rights and responsibilities of nations regarding the use of the world’s oceans.

The UAE’s statement also expressed unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing support for any initiatives that aim to protect the kingdom’s security and stability. This stance reflects the strong diplomatic ties and mutual interests that bind the two nations together, particularly in the face of regional threats and challenges.
